Finally got to see the cardiologist. Interestingly, he never got the report from the halter monitor I wore for a week. I found that frustratingly odd. Why wear the damn thing if they aren't going to send the report to the guy who holds my treatment plan? Fortunately for me, I have a watch that records my rhythm and I'm diligent at tracking odd behaviors of my heart! I showed him a few things and he said "oh, that's not atrial bigeminy, that's a wenckebach!" I stopped dead in my tracks and said, "what do you mean a wenckeback? I'd rather have atrial bigeminy!", as the scribe looked at me and smiled...
Now, a wenckeback is a 2nd degree heart block, so he scared me a bit. He told me I'm not to be concerned, neither is any more fatal than the other, actually both are rather benign. But are bothersome in that they feel badly because they flutter in the chest, but neither are likely to progress to anything deadly. We agreed to start a low dose metoprolol for a few months to see if we can settle it down, hopefully with the goal of weaning off when the palpitations stop. He believes this is worsened by COVID, however since I had it before COVID, I'll probably always have it. But he doesn't believe it will turn into AFIB in the future. That's good news.
Now, to the thyroid- here are my labs from this week-
NEVER- EVER- have my labs been this off. Waiting on the endocrinologist to get in touch with me... I'm a bit unnerved by this.. is my thyroid shutting down? Is this from my last bout of COVID? Is that new nodule causing problems? What in the world??
So, between the metoprolol (which has dropped my BP to a whopping 103/60, and my TSH being nearly 13, I'm feeling like a wet noodle! Functioning is very difficult right now- and. it. SUCKS! But, I'm going to keep on keeping on and doing my best to keep going. It's what I DO!
